On Friday, we’ll be nine years away from the Isle of Rangoon being ten years old! It’s all happened so fast!

On the 25th, our show turns one year old. It seems like only a decade ago that I first stabbed myself with a needle while trying a baseball stitch.

This was our first review and boy, did it come in hot. We had great guest stars from the world of Transformers Fandom: Vangelus of TGWTG, Derrick Wyatt (character designer for Transformers Animated) and even Dan Gilvezan (g1 Bumblebee) and David “Walky” Willis (Shortpacked!, etc!)

The rest of our videos combined have almost matched the view count on this one.

This particular sketch was inspired by Dgeypscun of OpinionVille fame, I was greatly inspired by Jason-with-a-D and this Carl Sagan adaptation was my attempt at doing a pro-skepticism video.

We continue our march toward the 1-year anniverary on Friday, here with Old Man Cthulhu, the Elder God (it’s a playlist! Let it run and you’ll see ‘em all!)

Fun Fact: Old Man Cthulhu was the first Rangoon. Sort of.

The ‘Cranky Old Man Cthulhu’ concept, as a puppet, originated two years before Isle of Rangoon formed and before I even started to learn how to sew. Like many of my ideas it was tossed into a sketchbook to age. I’d vaguely considered having him made on commission, but I was too poor for that, so I instead learned to make puppets to have one.

He was the third or forth puppet I actually made. The first Starchibald was my ‘lets see if this works’ project, which I followed up with a dragon named Drosby, who was a test for OMC’s wings. Once I was comfortable with sewing, I moved on to the full foam-body-and-tendrils guy you see above.

On the 24th, the Isle of Rangoon turns 1 year old!

Sounds like an excuse to repost to me! We’ll start here, with the first Rangoon Riff, “Leave it to Roll-Oh”, a short film about robots and domestic slavery from the 1940’s World’s Fair! Robots, condescension and terror come together on the Isle of Rangoon.

Along with bunches of Dgeypscun’s pals, Starchibald got to have a chat with his cousin Trudeau in Opinion-Ville’s big storyline conclusion.

For those confused, the storyline started here, with Puppet Jason’s kidnapping.

This isn’t the first time the Isle and Opinion-Ville have crossed paths, either. Imaginary Gary stands as an ally in the fight to cure Lambchop’s Syndrome, and And old Man Cthulhu made fun of Dyepscun’s name (in an ironic twist) in the first Old Man Cthulhu, back before we were on Blip.

Ray Harryhausen has died at age 92.

We grew up on Harryhausen’s movies and effects. Ray was the reason we did our review of Clash of the Titans, because more than anything we wanted to give tribute to his masterful work in that film and in others.

He was a great pioneer of film and had a unique ability to breathe life into the lifeless and for decades his effects were the wires that helped suspend our disbelief.

He will be missed.
